Former two-sport star Roscoe Crosby worked out for NFL scouts from 17 different teams on Friday, in an attempt to prove that his injuries and personal problems are behind him. Crosby caught passes from former NFL QB Shaun King, and was timed as running between 4.4 and 4.5 in the 40 yd dash. In the weight room, scouts confirmed that he did 18 reps of 225 pounds. The workout was cut short abruptly by Crosby's agent, Kevin Parker, after Crosby began cramping up in the nearly 100 degree South Carolina heat.
Roscoe Crosby, the number one high school WR prospect in the nation, out of Union (SC) High School, has been away from football for nearly 3 years, since setting freshman records at Clemson for passes caught, receiving yards, and touchdowns. After that early success, Crosby moved on to baseball after being drafted by the Kansas City Royals. He was drafted by the Royals after being selected in the 2nd Round of the MLB Draft in 2001.
Crosby planned to go back to Clemson for his sophomore season, but an elbow injury soon caught up to him, and he was forced to undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the 2002 season. He returned to Clemson briefly in 2003, but only played in one game, before leaving the team because of family issues. Over the course of two years, Crosby lost his brother in a drowning accident and three close friends died in a car accident as they traveled to Florida to see him play baseball.
After an arbitration case with the Royals for the remainder of Crosby's $1.75 million contract went against him in February, Crosby turned his attention full time to football. Even if he were to go undrafted in the supplemental draft, he is expected to be invited to an NFL camp as a free agent.
